A Study on Conceptions of Illness in School Age Children


Abstract
This study examined conceptions of illness in school age children.
A group of 311 urban elementary school students aged 7 to 12 years were asked for their conceptions toward illness.
The data was analyzed by S.P.S.S. (Statistical Package for the Social Science) program and the results were as follows:
1. There were no statistically significant differences between boys and girls in conceptions of illness (P > .05).
2. There were significant differences among the age groups in conceptions of illness (P < .05).
3. There were no significant differences between children who have experienced hospitalization and children who have not experienced hospitalization in conceptions of illness (P > .05).
4. There were no significant differences between children who have experienced illness and children who have not experienced illness in conceptions of illness (P > .05).
5. There were significant differences between children who have received education of illness and children who have not received education of illness in conceptions of illness (P <.05).
